About Niwa Nishikigoi

Our Story

Lets start at the beginning....

My love of fish began at a very young age, when I was introduced to the world of fishing by my grandad and dad. I would spend most weekends fishing rivers and ponds in and around Derbyshire and Staffordshire. 

As my interest in fish grew, so did my enthusiasm to keep koi. This lead to my first pond build in my parents back garden in my early teens (much to the dismay of my parents!) Fast forward 15 years        and I  bought my  own home which meant I was  able to build a  more substantial pond. However, it wasn't until I became fully immersed in the koi keeping hobby, that I decided/realised I needed a much bigger pond! This resulted in me building a 2k gallon sleeper pond

which allowed me to add larger koi to my collection.                                         

                       This pond is now being used primarily as a sales pond.

Then came the big build.   In 2021/22, I was fortunate to be able to build a 5.5k gallon, extremely high spec koi pond. This pond is the main pond at Niwa Nishikgoi and currently houses koi from 50cm - 90cm, including a past Grand Champion from the UK show scene.

From fishing to pond building and koi keeping has all helped me to gain over 30 years of pond  maintenance and fish experience.

It has been a lifelong dream of mine to travel to Japan, which, due to covid 19, looked like an impossibility at one point. Luckily, once the travel restrictions were lifted,  I have had the good fortune of travelling to Japan as a hobbyist and  had the pleasure of working alongside some of the UK's top koi dealers.

Since I made the decision to enter the koi trade, Niwa Nishikigoi Ltd has teamed up with several UK Koi Dealers.

Joining forces with other UK dealers is advantageous for you as my customer, NIwa Nishikigoi and the koi hobby.

​

Teaming up with other dealers, allows more koi to be bought in higher number. Resulting in access to better quality koi, from the Japanese breeders and in turn bringing the price down. 

One of my main objectives, is to bring the right koi into the UK for the right money.

For Special koi, we will endeavour to deliver the koi to you, ourselves at a cost.
